November 1, 2006- Santa Monica, CA. Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs (SEE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission of enabling people with passion and ideas in the social and environmental arena to quickly get to work under their nonprofit umbrella. They evaluate proposals and select projects that they determine will make a significant difference in the local community or internationally. Project Directors of chosen projects agree to the memorandum of understanding with SEE and are able to operate with many of the benefits afforded a more mature nonprofit organization. SEE focuses on small projects and encourage the Project Directors to build capacity until such time they can spin-off as their own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Currently, SEE has over 100 projects in its portfolio.
The Orang Utan Republik Education Initiative (OUREI) joined SEE in late October 2004. In the two years, OUREI has been able to grow and develop an active presence in both the Santa Monica area and at the national level in Indonesia. Through SEE support, OUREI has moved quickly to take its mission to Indonesia where the species is critically endangered. OUREI has been able to enroll Indonesians at all levels of society to become involved in the process of saving the orangutan through education and outreach programs.
SEE chose OUREI as its featured project of the month for November 2006. Images of OUREI's Ambassador Angelina Sondakh as well as activities of OUREI's sister organization, the Orangutan Caring Club of Indonesia, illustrate the page. Of note is the banner that proclaims Orangutan Caring Week- November 12-18, 2006.
OUREI appreciates the support of SEE and thanks the board and staff, particularly Russell Jensen and Jennifer Hoffman, for the many services they provide OUREI.
