  • Medan, Sumatra: The Sumatran Orangutan Education Consortium (SOEC) held numerous events and activities during the week including: video displays and table events in malls and other public venues, radio talk shows, banners around the city, educational activities in nearby villages, lectures at local universities, and a fair with contests and a peace march.

Lectures and seminars were presented at the University of North Sumatran, the Islamic University of North Sumatra, the University of Medan North Sumatra by educators, conservationists, and scientists of the universities, NGOs, and the Consortium.

  • Gunung Palung, West Kalimantan: Yayasan Palung was to have celebrated Orangutan Caring Week by distributing posters and pamphlets to the public, playing environmental music, performing puppet shows, and holding a puppet contest for the grade school children.

  • Ubud, Bali: Monday, November 5, 6pm. Sumatran Orangutan Society hosted a dinner and showed "Losing Tomorrow", a moving and informative documentary by Patrick Rouxel.  Some 50 attendees participated in the event.

  • Los Angeles: Monday-Friday, November 5-9. The Indonesian Consulate  participated in Orangutan Caring Week. Displays and information were placed in the first floor foyer. Numerous people took notice of the displays and requested further information about orangutans and their plight. The Consulate is located at 3457 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90010.   • San Diego: Saturday, November 10, 8:30am-5pm.  So. California Primate Research Forum presented "Asian Primates in Perspective" with 5 presentations by primate researchers. OUREI had a poster display at the event located in the Arts and Letters Building 201 on the San Diego State University campus.   • Santa Monica: Sunday, November 4, 11:30am. Every week is Orangutan Caring Week for OUREI, however, OUREI celebrated this special week at the Santa Monica Farmer's Market by bringing in additional information and graphics and explaining the importance of the occasion to numerous visitors.

  Pennsylvania

  • Reading: Reading Public Museum Gift Shop, 500 Museum Road, Reading, PA 19611. Artist Jason Shanaman displayed his beautiful orangutan sculptures and distributed information packets about orangutans to the public.   Texas

  • Houston: Houston Zoo held its Orangutan Caring Week activities on the weekends of Nov 10 & 11 and 17 & 18 during regular zoo hours. A booth was set up at the orangutan exhibit where visitors were able to learn about orangutans and purchase orangutan artwork stationery. Two paintings created by the Houston orangutans were raffled off at the zoo and online to help raise funds for conservation activities at Kinabatangan Reserve in Sabah, Malaysia.   • Brisbane: Wednesday & Saturday, November 7 & 10, Brisbane chapter of  Australian Orangutan Project (AOP) hosted an information stall at Brisbane Central Station and a fun-filled Trivia Night at Kenmore State School.   • Melbourne: Friends of the Melbourne Zoo are hosted a pre-OCW tabling event on October 28 at the zoo's "Super Discovery Table Day" where they raised awareness about the Sumatran Orangutan.   • Melbourne: Saturday & Sunday, November 10 & 11, Melbourne Zoo hosted a weekend event which will included:
    - Orang-utan conservation presentation
    - Kids 'orang-utan nest building' games
    - Sustainable timber presentation
    - Orang-utan training presentation
    - Orang-utan photos and paintings for sale with all profits to Flora and Fauna International CRU in Sumatra
    - Displays of orang-utan diet and enrichment
